01
Technical support
What support is included when I purchase a complete system?
At-home DIY customers: A complete system purchase includes system diagrams showing how the components connect, plus two hours of Advanced Technical Support to help during the final connection stages. We are also developing an At-Home DIY Install video library that will give our system customers additional installation guidance.
DIY Install Clinic and private-installation customers: If our team guided or completed the installation, we will help troubleshoot and correct issues related to our work.
Big Beard Battery owners: We help our battery customers determine what may be wrong and, when necessary, guide them through the warranty repair process.
Mobile-installer customers: If a mobile installer completed your system, contact that installer first. If the installer determines the problem is related to a Big Beard Battery, our team will then work with you on the battery issue.
What should I gather before contacting you about a technical problem?
Help us help you better—yes, it is a tongue twister! Photos and videos are often the fastest way for our team to understand what you are seeing.
Please capture the equipment involved, connections, indicator lights, error messages, and the problem as it happens. Text the photos or videos to 903-386-0668 or email them to sales@bigbeardbattery.com. Include your name, order information if available, and a short description of what changed or what you expected the system to do.
Can you troubleshoot equipment that was not purchased from Big Beard Battery?
As an authorized Victron Energy distributor, we can assist owners of Victron Energy equipment purchased elsewhere. Consultation and troubleshooting time for non-customers is a paid service.
If troubleshooting determines that a Victron component has failed, we can process the RMA and help arrange the warranty replacement or manufacturer-requested repair. The customer is responsible for any shipping charges, which must be paid before shipment.
We do not service or install other brands of batteries. Customers purchasing Big Beard Battery products and services receive scheduling priority.
Can you remotely access my Victron system?
Yes. If your Victron system is connected to Wi-Fi and configured for remote monitoring, we can work with you to obtain access. Remote access is a common part of our Advanced Technical Support process and can help our team review system information without being physically at the RV.
Where can I find manuals and specification sheets?
Visit our Technical Resources page for available Big Beard Battery manuals, specifications, and supporting documents. Manufacturer documentation may also be linked from individual product pages.
What is the difference between regular customer support and Advanced Technical Support?
We are a small, family-owned and operated business. Our customer service team can answer common questions and help with straightforward concerns—including helping someone find the battery power button. True story.
When a question requires detailed troubleshooting, system review, remote access, or one of our senior technical specialists—the big guns, also known as the big brains—we schedule dedicated Advanced Technical Support time. This gives the specialist time to review the situation and focus on the issue with you.
02
System design
Is system design free when I purchase Big Beard Batteries?
Yes. System design is included for customers building a complete power system with Big Beard Batteries and the components we sell.
Because we are a small, family-owned and operated business, we prioritize customers who are considering a complete Big Beard Battery system. We do not offer full system-design services for projects that will not use our batteries.
If you only need help identifying the right Victron Energy components, you are still welcome to call us with product questions. That assistance is not considered a full system design.
Do I need to know my battery, inverter, or solar requirements before submitting the form?
No. You do not need to know the battery capacity, inverter size, or number of solar panels before submitting the form.
The more you can tell us about your current equipment, what you hope to keep, your available space, and how you want to use the RV, the more efficiently we can design within those parameters. If you do not know those details yet, that is okay—we can help you determine them.
What information should I provide on the System Design Form?
Tell us what equipment your RV currently has, which components you would like to keep, and what you want to power when you are away from pedestal power.
Knowing what is already installed helps us determine whether safe, compatible components can be reused—potentially saving you money. Understanding your travel habits and power needs helps us properly size the battery bank, inverter, charging sources, solar, and supporting equipment.
Can you incorporate components I already own?
Yes, when those components are safe, compatible, and capable of meeting the demands of the system we are designing. We will review the equipment you already own and explain what can be reused and what may need to be replaced.
How long does the system-design process take?
After submitting the System Design Form, you may call us right away. If a technical team member is available, we may be able to review it with you immediately. Most customers submit the form and then schedule a System Design Consultation for the next available time, often within the following day or so.
After the consultation, we will email you an estimate listing the components recommended for the system discussed with our team. From there, you can decide how to move forward—installing it yourself at home, attending a DIY Install Clinic, hiring a mobile installer, or having the Big Beard Battery team complete the installation.
Will I receive a wiring diagram?
General system diagrams are provided to customers who purchase a complete system package from Big Beard Battery. The diagram helps you understand the proper placement of the major components and how they connect within the planned system.
How will I monitor my system?
Short answer: With Victron equipment, you will have system monitoring—usually on your phone or a mounted screen.
Our preferred setup uses a Cerbo GX. When internet is available, Victron VRM can also provide remote monitoring. Many customers add a mounted display inside the RV so the system is easy to check without reaching for a phone.
Do I have to add solar if I do not want holes in my roof?
Short answer: No. Solar is optional.
An off-grid power system can be designed around generator charging, alternator charging, shore power, or a combination of sources. Tell us how you travel and what you want to power, and we will help determine the right approach.
03
DIY Install Clinic
What is included in the clinic fee?
Your clinic fee includes a five-day guided build at Road Life Complex, a limited-size clinic for more personal support, your approved system plan and diagrams, use of the tools and workspace needed for cable work, carpentry, and installation tasks, and experienced installers nearby to check your progress and answer questions.
It also includes a full-hookup RV site with electric, water, and sewer, a final system review, and an end-of-week celebration.
Your system components are purchased separately. You perform the installation; work requested from the Big Beard Battery Install Team may carry an additional charge.
Is the clinic deposit the entire clinic fee?
No. The complete clinic fee is $2,000. A $1,000 deposit—half of the clinic fee—reserves your selected clinic date.
The remaining $1,000 is added to your system-component invoice and paid with your final payment. Final payment is due 30 days before your clinic begins.
Do I need to purchase my system components from Big Beard Battery?
Yes. Only systems designed and approved by Big Beard Battery may be installed during a Big Beard Battery DIY Install Clinic. Your package must be purchased through us and include Big Beard Batteries along with the other components specified in your approved design. There are no exceptions.
Where are the clinics held, and how long do they last?
DIY Install Clinics are five-day guided builds held at our headquarters at Road Life Complex in Athens, Texas.
Road Life Complex is a multipurpose RV property with a full-hookup RV park and the home of Big Beard Battery. It is also planned as the future location of additional RV upgrades, including RV roof replacements, suspension upgrades, and more.
Is an RV site included?
Yes. Your clinic fee includes a full-hookup RV site at Road Life Complex for your clinic stay. The site includes electric, water, and sewer so you can stay comfortably on-site while installing your new power system.
Can my spouse or installation partner participate?
Absolutely. You may bring your spouse or a friend who is willing to help install your power system. All clinic participants must be at least 18 years old.
What tools should I bring?
You do not need to bring tools. The clinic provides the tools needed for cable work, carpentry, and the installation tasks involved in your approved system build.
What happens if we do not finish during the clinic?
You will finish the core installation before you leave. Most participants complete their builds within the scheduled five-day clinic, although some projects require slightly more time. Our team will work with you to make sure the core system installation is complete.
Preferred cleanup, finishing touches, or personal organization that does not affect the safe operation of the system may be completed on your own after the clinic.
How much experience do I need for the DIY Install Clinic?
Basic tool skills, a willingness to work on your own RV, and a readiness to ask questions are a good starting point. You do not need to arrive knowing wire sizes, inverter settings, or solar math. Our team works from a system plan built around your RV and goals.
Can we use my existing solar panels?
Sometimes. We evaluate your existing panels, their specifications, roof placement, wiring, and compatibility with the new design. If they fit the system safely and effectively, we may keep them. If they limit the new system, we may recommend replacing or relocating them.
04
Payments
Do you offer financing?
Big Beard Battery does not offer in-house financing.
Customers who want to explore financing may apply independently through an outside lender. One online option is Good Sam Finance, which advertises unsecured personal loans that may be used for RV repairs, upgrades, accessories, and related purchases.
Big Beard Battery is not affiliated with or compensated by Good Sam Finance. Loan availability, approval, rates, fees, and terms are determined entirely by the lender. Please compare the total borrowing cost before accepting any offer.
When is payment due for a system or installation?
Payment timing depends on how your system will be installed:
- At-home DIY system: Full payment is generally required before the system is shipped.
- Private installation—booking: A 50% payment toward system components is due when you reserve an installation date.
- Private installation—30 days before arrival: The remaining 50% of the component invoice is due.
- Installation labor: Labor is billed separately during the installation week, generally when the work is about halfway complete and our team can confirm whether the scope or components need adjustment.
See our complete Payments and Deposit Policy for additional details. Missing a payment deadline may delay or cancel a reserved installation date.
Are deposits refundable or transferable?
DIY Install Clinic deposits may be transferred in full to another available clinic date when a scheduling conflict occurs. Cancellation or transfer requests must be submitted by email to sales@bigbeardbattery.com.
Refunds for clinic-deposit cancellations are based on when written notice is received:
- 60 or more days before the clinic: Full deposit refund, minus the 3% credit-card charge.
- 30–59 days before: Refund minus the 3% credit-card charge and a 10% cancellation fee.
- 15–29 days before: Refund minus the 3% credit-card charge and a 20% cancellation fee.
- Fewer than 15 days before: The clinic deposit is nonrefundable.
See the complete Refund and Returns Policy for component refunds, other deposits, and full terms.
How long are estimates and invoices valid?
The expiration date shown on the estimate, quote, or invoice controls. Our typical validity period is 30 days because supplier pricing for some components can change from month to month.
If an older estimate has expired, forward it to our team. We can review current pricing, revise it if needed, and reactivate the estimate.
Will sales tax be added to my order?
Yes, in most cases. Orders picked up in Texas or shipped to a Texas address are subject to applicable Texas sales tax. Orders shipped outside Texas may also be subject to sales tax based on the destination and applicable state and local requirements.
Some states offer sales-tax relief for qualifying solar-energy systems, but eligibility varies significantly. Many exemptions are written for systems installed on real property and may not cover an RV installation, standalone battery storage, labor, or every component in a power system.
If you hold a valid resale or other sales-tax exemption for the state where the order will be delivered, send the applicable exemption certificate to our team before payment so we can review it. An exemption is not applied automatically.
What payment methods do you accept?
Depending on whether you are paying online or through an invoice, available methods may include major credit cards, ACH or wire transfer, checks, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. For an open invoice, follow the payment instructions provided on that invoice or contact our team before mailing a check.
05
Shipping & returns
How quickly will my order ship?
Shipping time depends on inventory availability. In-stock orders are generally processed within one to two business days and shipped by UPS Ground or LTL freight.
If an item is out of stock, the order will generally ship within one to two business days after inventory is replenished. If you need to confirm an anticipated shipping date before ordering online, please contact our sales team before placing the order.
How will large battery or system orders be delivered?
Multi-battery orders and complete system packages are generally shipped by LTL freight. Your order will be secured to a pallet and delivered by a semi-truck or box truck, so the delivery address must be accessible to a commercial delivery vehicle and able to accept a pallet.
We automatically request liftgate service at the delivery location. If you have equipment available to unload the pallet yourself, tell our team before shipment and we can remove the liftgate request.
What should I do if freight arrives damaged?
Inspect the pallet before it is unloaded whenever possible. If you see damage while the pallet is still on the truck or the driver is present, report it immediately and require the driver to describe the damage on the delivery paperwork before you sign.
Take clear photos of the pallet, packaging, and visible damage before or during unloading. Contact Big Beard Battery as soon as possible and send us the photos and delivery paperwork.
Signing for freight without noting damage can severely limit the available carrier claim options. Big Beard Battery is not responsible for damage caused during delivery, but we will work hard to help pursue a remedy when documentation and carrier procedures allow.
Can I pick up my order in Athens?
Absolutely. Select local pickup during checkout. Our team will notify you when the order is ready, and you can pick it up from Big Beard Battery at Road Life Complex in Athens, Texas. Please wait for the ready-for-pickup notification before traveling to our facility.
Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada?
Our standard shipping program serves the lower 48 United States. Because lithium batteries have strict transportation requirements, shipments to Alaska or Hawaii are considered only on a case-by-case basis and must be arranged with our team before ordering. Any shipping cost beyond our standard lower-48 shipping allowance is paid by the customer.
We do not currently ship to Canada.
Are returns subject to restocking or return-shipping fees?
Yes. Eligible returns must be initiated within 90 days of the original purchase and require prior authorization from our team.
- New, unused items in their original packaging: 10% restocking fee.
- Eligible used items returned in their original packaging: 30% restocking fee.
- Credit- or debit-card purchases: An additional 3% card-processing charge is deducted from the refund.
The customer is responsible for return shipping and handling. Batteries must be returned on a pallet, and we can provide required return-shipping materials at the customer's expense. Used products without their original packaging are not accepted.
Contact us before returning anything and review the complete Refund and Returns Policy for all requirements and exclusions.
06
Warranty
What warranty comes with my components?
Big Beard Batteries carry an 11-year limited warranty. Victron Energy components generally carry a five-year manufacturer warranty. Warranty coverage varies for other brands and products. Read our complete Limited Warranty or contact us about a specific component.
Do I need to register my battery?
No. You do not need to register your Big Beard Battery. We assign a unique identifier to the battery-management system inside each battery, allowing our team to verify manufacturing information when support or warranty service is needed.
The 11-year limited-warranty period begins on the date the battery is shipped. See our complete Limited Warranty for coverage terms.
Is the battery warranty transferable?
No. The Big Beard Battery limited warranty applies only to the original consumer purchaser and is not transferable to a subsequent owner or recipient.
When troubleshooting confirms a qualifying defect in materials or workmanship, the available remedy depends on the battery's age and the written warranty. During the first eight years, Big Beard Battery may repair, replace, or refund the product at our discretion. During the final three years, we may repair or replace the product, or offer a 30% discount toward a replacement if the battery is irreparable.
Battery diagnostics and repairs require a scheduled appointment at our Athens, Texas facility or with a Big Beard Battery authorized repair dealer. Contact our team before transporting a battery or arranging service.
What is excluded from warranty coverage?
The limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover damage caused by transportation, improper storage or use, operating the battery outside its published specifications or capacities, failure to follow instructions or required maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repairs, normal wear and tear, accidents, abuse, negligence, or other external events beyond our control.
If inspection determines that misuse or customer-caused damage contributed to the failure, repair labor, parts, shipping, and handling charges may apply. Review the complete Limited Warranty for all terms and exclusions.
How do I begin a warranty claim?
Most warranty claims begin with troubleshooting by our support team. Call 903-386-0668 or email sales@bigbeardbattery.com with your name, purchase information, a description of the issue, and any helpful photos or videos.
Do not ship or transport the battery until our team has reviewed the issue and provided instructions. If in-person diagnostics are required, we will help arrange an appointment at our Athens, Texas facility or through an authorized Big Beard Battery repair dealer.
Who handles warranty support for Victron components?
As an authorized Victron Energy distributor, Big Beard Battery can help troubleshoot the component and process a qualifying Victron warranty RMA. If Victron requests a repair rather than replacement, we will help coordinate that process.
The customer is responsible for shipping charges associated with sending or receiving components for repair or replacement. Contact our team before shipping any equipment so we can confirm the required process and documentation.
07
In-person services
What is the difference between a private installation and the DIY Install Clinic?
Private installation: You bring your RV to our Athens facility and leave it with us. The Big Beard Battery team completes the full installation. You return when the work is finished, and our team reviews the new components and system operation with you before departure.
DIY Install Clinic: You bring your RV to our facility and perform your own installation using your approved system plan. Our team oversees the process, checks your progress, and provides expert guidance throughout the build.
Can I stay at Road Life Complex while my RV is being worked on?
Customers cannot stay inside their RV during a private installation. The RV is moved into our service bay, and our insurance restrictions do not allow customers to occupy it while the work is underway. We hope to offer a tiny-home rental option for future private-installation customers, but it is not currently available.
For a repair appointment or small installation that can usually be completed in less than one day, we may have you reserve an RV site at Road Life Complex and send a technician to the RV. This option is arranged case by case and is not available for complete system builds.
How long should I expect a private installation to take?
Most private installations require us to keep the RV for approximately one week. The exact number of days depends on the final system design and scope of work. Once the design is complete, our team will coordinate the scheduled drop-off and anticipated pickup dates with you.
Can I schedule an in-person system consultation?
Absolutely. Our design process does not require an in-person visit, but we enjoy meeting potential customers and are happy to arrange one.
An appointment is required so we can make sure a system-design team member will be on-site. Our team frequently travels to RV shows and rallies. Call 903-386-0668 or email sales@bigbeardbattery.com to coordinate the best date and time.
Do you work on systems installed by another company?
Sometimes. Troubleshooting and repair work on systems installed by another company is considered case by case based on the equipment, the issue, and our appointment availability.
This is a paid service. Contact our team with information about the system and the problem you are experiencing, and we can discuss whether we are able to help and what service charges may apply.
Can I tour the battery-building and installation facilities?
Yes. With a prearranged appointment, we would be glad to show you what we do at Big Beard Battery and Road Life Complex in Athens, Texas. We are proud of our battery-building and installation work and love sharing how it all comes together.
Please call 903-386-0668 or email sales@bigbeardbattery.com before traveling so we can confirm that the appropriate team members will be available.
