Adjustable Solar Panel Feet for RV Roof Obstacles

Big Beard Battery Team |

An RV solar layout can look perfect on paper and still encounter a vent stack, air conditioner, or other roof obstacle during installation. Adjustable solar panel feet can provide the clearance needed without altering critical RV components.

Do not cut the plumbing vent stack

A roof vent stack helps the RV plumbing system admit air as water drains from the holding tanks. Shortening it can interfere with venting, allow debris into the plumbing, and contribute to odors or repairs. Change the panel mounting plan instead.

How adjustable panel feet help

The adjustable mounts shown in the original Tech Tip can raise a panel approximately 4 to 7 inches. That added height may clear a vent stack or rooftop component, and limited adjustment can help refine a tight panel position.

This is not necessarily about creating a steep seasonal tilt. In many RV applications, it is a practical way to solve a clearance problem while keeping the array secure.

Installation details matter

  • Confirm the kit includes appropriate bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts.
  • If the panel manufacturer permits drilling its frame, remain in the approved frame area and avoid the laminate.
  • Attach and seal roof penetrations using methods approved for the roof structure and membrane.
  • Account for wind loading, panel height, service access, and travel vibration.

Mount compatibility varies by panel and RV roof. Follow the instructions from the panel, mount, RV, fastener, and sealant manufacturers. Inspect mounting hardware and sealant regularly.
