Adjustable Solar Panel Feet for RV Roof

Designing an RV solar system always looks clean on paper.

You measure your panels. You sketch the layout. Everything fits perfectly.

Then you climb up on the roof.

And there it is. A vent stack sitting exactly where your panel needs to go. Or the front AC unit is positioned just far enough back that your standard Z brackets will not clear it.

That is usually when someone asks, “Can I just cut the vent stack shorter?”

No. That is not the solution.

Why You Should Never Cut a Vent Stack

That pipe coming through your RV roof plays an important role. It allows air to enter the plumbing system when water drains from your gray or black holding tanks. If you shorten it, you risk creating:

  • Poor tank venting

  • Odor problems inside the RV

  • Debris entering the plumbing system

  • Avoidable plumbing repairs

Instead of modifying something critical to your RV’s plumbing, the smarter move is to adjust your mounting solution.

The Real Fix: Adjustable Tiltable Solar Panel Feet

Adjustable tiltable solar panel feet are an upgraded alternative to traditional Z brackets. They allow you to:

  • Raise your solar panel 4 to 7 inches

  • Clear vent stacks and rooftop obstacles

  • Add slight tilt when necessary

  • Maintain a strong, professional mounting setup

In many cases, that extra few inches of clearance is all it takes to solve the problem safely and cleanly.

When Tilting Actually Makes Sense

Most RV solar panels are mounted flat. That works well in standard layouts. However, sometimes roof components limit your positioning options.

For example, if your front air conditioner sits slightly back from the nose of the RV, you may not want your solar panel extending too far forward. With adjustable tiltable feet, you can lower one side and raise the other slightly. This allows you to fine-tune placement without redesigning your entire layout.

This is not about aggressive seasonal tilting. It is about solving tight clearance issues intelligently.

Installation Tips That Matter

From real-world experience, here are a few important points:

  • Many adjustable mounting kits do not include enough hardware. Add proper bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts so nothing can slip through oversized slots.

  • If drilling into the side frame of a solar panel, stay within the designated frame area. Most panels have a visible halfway line on the sidewall. Do not drill above that line or you risk damaging the panel itself.

  • Mount these feet to the roof the same way you would standard Z brackets. Use proper sealant and secure fastening practices.

Yes, these adjustable mounts typically cost more than standard Z brackets. You are paying for additional material and flexibility. In most cases, that flexibility prevents layout compromises or costly mistakes.

The Bottom Line

Roof obstacles are normal. Every RV has them.

The mistake is not having a vent stack in the way. The mistake is trying to force a panel into a space that does not work.

Adjustable tiltable solar panel feet give you clearance, flexibility, and a clean installation without cutting plumbing or compromising your roof structure.

If you are planning an RV solar system and want to make sure everything fits before drilling holes, start with a proper solar design. It is always easier to solve layout challenges before installation begins. Adjustable Solar Panel Feet for RV Roof

I have 1200w of solar panels on my roof and rarely do I generate more that 450w. I have a deployable 400w solar panel connected to a different solar controller and typically see 300~350w. This is in Southern California and camping in the desert. No shade. I am now recommending to my friends, don't spend the money on the roof, get deployable panels. Tilting makes a huge difference.
